My current role

I'm an Area Vice President in our Houston office working exclusively in the healthcare sector.

What gets me going every day

I truly feel that, with the work we do here, we are able to help people, and that's important to me. In our office, we work primarily with physicians and physician offices, and by covering all their insurance needs, we are able to relieve their burden and free them up to do what they do best - and that's help people get better. So I feel that what I'm doing every day really matters, and in my own way I'm helping to make the world a better place.

Who succeeds here

To me, it's someone who's aggressive and wants to win. The sky's the limit here. There's nothing that's going to hold you back. We're an entrepreneurial sales organization at our core, so I tell potential recruits that as long as you do your part, Gallagher's going to back you every step of the way. If you have an idea and it makes sense, we're going to do all we can to help you make it happen.

What our culture means to me

I always say that the culture of the company is like a family, and I think that's rare for such a large organization. In fact, that was one of the things I was worried about, because I came to Gallagher through an acquisition. We were a small office, and we genuinely operated like a family. So I was afraid that we were going to lose that, and I was expecting everything to be much more corporate and impersonal. But it hasn't been like that at all. We have maintained that small, family-like environment, because, as I've come to learn, that's part of the overall Gallagher culture as well. So we now have all the leverage, tools and resources of a global industry leader behind us, but we still feel like a close, tight-knit office and company. It's really like having the best of both worlds.

The Power of Gallagher

Being part of the Gallagher team has opened up opportunities I feel I never would have had otherwise. I'm able to go after accounts that an independent broker or smaller brokerage firm could never dream of. I feel our offerings, reach, reputation for customer service, resources, tools and training are unmatched in the industry. This was especially brought home to me recently after attending a company event in Las Vegas called "The Power of Gallagher."

Essentially, this was where representatives from around the world came together to put on an internal trade show highlighting the capabilities, talents, resources, etc. that exist solely within our own company. The networking opportunities this created were fantastic. I've never heard of another company that would say, "Hey, we're going to put on an internal trade show so you can meet the rest of your company, see what they do, and then see where you can all go from there."
