Matt Fitzgerald

Matt started his career in 1997 at Aon as an Aviation reinsurance broker and after 4 years moved to Willis Re to work on a broader Specialty lines Reinsurance Treaty portfolio (including Marine, Energy, Property and Political Violence).

In 2006, he left to set up a new Reinsurance brokerage business part of the stock broker, Execution Limited. The main focus was accessing the alternative (ILS) markets to bring new capacity to the Property Catastrophe reinsurance and retro market and Funds at Lloyd’s sphere, as well as building a portfolio of Specialty lines clients. In 2012, Gallagher facilitated a MBO of the reinsurance team and in 2014 it became a leading part of the newly formed Capsicum Re joint venture.

The team he now leads in Gallagher Re is circa 50 people strong, with continued focus on Property Cat/ILS, specialty lines, alternative risk transfer structures, cyber and US wholesale. He has built up and embedded in the team a world respected analytical and actuarial function that continues to support and add credibility to the product innovation and access to alternative markets for Gallagher Re and the wider Gallagher group clients.
