Steven Rance

Steve Rance joined the business in 2017 as Managing Partner, establishing the mortgage reinsurance specialism with more than 30 years’ experience across the global mortgage arena as a lender, mortgage insurance underwriter, consultant and broker.

The team were quickly appointed by Arch on its new mortgage risk transfer programme and, since then, have placed more than $10bn of mortgage risk into the reinsurance markets for government-sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Before entering the broking world, Steve held executive positions in two US-based mortgage insurers, Genworth Financial and Radian. He then established JLT Global Mortgage Solutions in 2008, working with leading UK house builders, lenders and government to deliver the UK’s first government-backed mortgage insurance scheme called NewBuy. For the two years prior to joining Gallagher Re, Steve was based in the US where he developed new business opportunities with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and US mortgage insurers.

Steve passionately believes that insurance can be used as an enabler, creating opportunities for young people to access housing and home ownership. To that end he works with The Centre for Social Justice and other housing ‘think tanks’ to support housing policy and new initiatives.
