Construction and opioids-a lethal combination

The construction industry has long been known as one that takes a toll on workers, from injuries on the job to sore backs and, as people get older, stiff knees. The opioid crisis is making these problems even worse.

The injury rate for construction workers is 77 percent higher than the national average for other occupations. An estimated 15 percent of construction workers have a substance abuse disorder, compared to the national average of 8.6 percent.
