In July 2016, the DOL issued proposed regulations that include major changes to Form 5500 filings that would impact employers sponsoring ERISA health and welfare plans. Two key changes are the addition of a new Schedule J requiring significant information about group health plan coverage and a requirement that all group health plans regardless of size would be required to file Form 5500. The proposed changes, if finalized, would be effective for plan years beginning in 2019.
