Obtaining a Favorable Workers Compensation and Fleet Premium with Unfavorable Losses

A road paving and hauling organization had some challenging losses and significant claims develop within a short period of time, so the relationship with their carrier had become severely strained. The Gallagher risk management account executive explained to the client why the claims situation could make the renewal difficult.

During that time of the losses, the client had made significant changes to control their workers compensation and fleet loss exposures, but the incumbent carrier and the other insurance markets were still hesitant to underwrite them.

The Gallagher consultant knew there had to be a balance, so he conducted a comprehensive review which included mining loss data, communicating new management changes and providing more comprehensive documentation on their safety programs to the underwriters. The result was more favorable workers compensation and fleet premiums with no increases.
