Advisor - Sexual Harassment The Next Generation

Published on by

In October 1991, Anita Hill testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in connection with the confirmation of Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. As a result of Ms. Hill’s testimony, “sexual harassment” became both a topic of conversation and the basis for many claims brought by employees against employers and alleged perpetrators.

Recently, claims of sexual harassment are again making news. An entire generation has entered the workforce since Anita Hill’s Senate testimony and there may be a generational difference in how sexual harassment is perceived. The increased use of social media and news stories involving alleged conduct of well-known people may also play a part, including the use of “#MeToo” with users sharing their stories.
