PEP Talk - Avoiding the Pitfalls in the AIA Contract

Published on

Beware of the “standard” forms of agreement tendered by your architect and/or contractor for construction projects. There are provisions in these agreements that work very much in favor of the vendor and against the best interests of you.

Before you sign any more of these “standard” agreements, please ask your legal counsel to do a comprehensive review of the standard forms to make certain you do not put your public entity at a disadvantage when claims arise.  You may get resistance, so that is why it is important you edit the AIA documents right from the start.
