Lucky fans and local youth players took to the pitch alongside their rugby heroes on Saturday (9th March), when they were invited to take part in the official match-day proceedings at Sixways Stadium, as the Worcester Warriors went head-to-head with the Exeter Chiefs.

The young fans took on the honour of acting as mascots and flagbearers for the game, with some of the young players also taking part in a special play-on-the-pitch training session led by community coaches from Gallagher Premiership Rugby. The event, known as a ‘Gallagher Game Day’, is one of 12 events we’re hosting across the season and forms part of our ongoing investment to bolster strong relationships with the community, including local schools and grass roots rugby clubs.

Local club, Dudley Kingswinford RFC, was chosen to receive this special opportunity as the coach of the youth team is also the General Manager at one of Gallagher’s long-standing clients.12 youth players from the Club’s under 7s team took to the field as mascots, standing side-by-side with the Worcester Warriors first team before the start of the game, whilst an additional 18 children from Dudley Kingswinford RFC’s under 8s team acted as flag bearers, forming a ‘Guard of Honour’ as the players ran onto the pitch in front of cheering crowds.

Kevin Baugh, Under 7s Coach at Dudley Kingswinford RFC, said: “We’d like to say thank you to Gallagher for inviting our youth players to enjoy the festivities as part of the Gallagher Game Day. We share Gallagher’s commitment to supporting local communities and this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity provided a fantastic occasion to celebrate the ethos of rugby whilst inspiring our youth players to succeed in the future. They thoroughly enjoyed sharing the spotlight with some of their rugby heroes and acting as a guard of honour – an opportunity made possible by Gallagher.”

Guy Mills, Managing Director for Gallagher, said: “The Gallagher Game Day at Sixways Stadium was a huge success and it was a pleasure to witness the next generation of rugby enthusiasts walk hand-in-hand onto the field with some of their local heroes.

“As a community broker, we are keen to give back to the communities we work in by using our expertise to enable them to grow and thrive, an ethos which perfectly mirrors that of Dudley Kingswinford RFC. We are committed to supporting our clients in as many ways as possible and were delighted to partner with the Club to provide this fantastic opportunity for the children and align our core values to inspire future generations through sport.”
