Knowledge sharing was crucial when it came to future-proofing the business
Gallagher, our parent company, is a global insurance brokerage, risk management and consulting services firm, employing more than 30,000 people across 35 countries.

Like many organizations, Gallagher employs a multi-generational workforce – ranging from people at the very start of their career to individuals with long service to the company.
The leadership team knew that knowledge sharing was crucial when it came to future-proofing the business – and that empowering line managers to forge relationships between those approaching retirement and the next generation of leaders looking to leave their mark was the way to achieve this.
Placing the role of the line manager at the center of the project, we developed ‘Mapping the Future’ – a toolkit designed to help in the facilitation of milestone career conversations between emerging talent within the organization and employees nearing retirement.
Consisting of a physical box full of conversation guides, pledge cards and case studies, the toolkit showcased examples of how drawing on the wealth of experience within the business had helped shape succession planning in the past. This furnished line managers with the information they needed to confidently take those all-important next steps.
Designed to create understanding of effective communication, 150 manager toolkits were handed out during the campaign – and the conversation started flowing.
The feedback speaks for itself:
- ‘The reason I’m still with Gallagher is because managers I’ve had have taken the time to talk to me, and help me figure out what’s next’ Adam, future leader
- ‘Mentorship has played a big part in helping me advance. I’ve had several mentors along the way – and they listened to me. I don’t think I’d have stayed without that’ Tiffany, future leader
- ‘If it wasn’t for the regular career conversations and catch-ups I’ve had with my managers, I wouldn’t have been able to understand what’s next for me’ Hanna, future leader
