He will work closely with Gallagher’s climate solutions division led by James Bosley in its London based Specialty operations, and its captive specialists, with many clients using these as an alternative to traditional insurance products.

Ian has over 18 years’ experience in energy insurance and joined Gallagher in 2020. He started his career at Willis in 2007 as an energy broker before going onto Marsh in 2012 and then spent five years as an energy underwriter based in Singapore for XL Catlin and Argenta.

In his new role, Ian will provide clients with specialist risk management and insurance advice for those clients in the transition space. He will report to Matt Byatt, Managing Partner and his team will act as a specialist resource within Gallagher’s extensive energy practice which includes 100 energy risk professionals.

Matt commented: "We have worked with many clients undergoing a transition to cleaner energy over recent years and the creation of this dedicated role and supporting team working alongside our climate solutions practice, provides a market leading solution and gives clients access to the very best risk management and broking knowledge. Ian has an extensive track record and we are thrilled he is moving to this pivotal role in our energy operations."

Ian added, “We recognise that those clients with interests outside of the traditional energy segments require an alternative approach with a specialist broker, who is able to identify the differing risks these projects face and provide bespoke insurance solutions. We engage clients during their initial research, finance and acquisition stages, through to the construction and operational lifespan. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to build on our existing capabilities with a dedicated team resourcing to support clients with their specific transition needs."
