The business is being led by Brian Wang, who joined Gallagher in 2022 and has been appointed CEO of Taiwan. Prior to joining Gallagher, Brian was Managing Director of WTW from 2019 to 2022 and in a similar role for AON for eight years prior to that.
A team of risk professionals will look after clients from Gallagher’s Taiwan HQ in Taipei, providing first-rate risk management and insurance solutions for businesses with specialist knowledge in property & casualty, marine, construction, cyber, trade credit, financial lines, energy plus employee benefits services.
Colleagues from Gallagher Re’s global reinsurance business led by Jimmy Tsai, plus representatives from its aviation team, which is part of its London-based Specialty division, will also be based with the team working with Brian. The business will form part of Gallagher’s Asia operations which have grown over the last 18 months to include Japan and Hong Kong. Across the continent of Asia, Gallagher additionally has teams based in Singapore, India, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia.
The team previously operated under the Alexander Leed brand, which has been established in the region since 2001 and they bring a wealth of market knowledge and local experience. The creation of a new hub in Taiwan enables Gallagher to further expand its offering and provide tailored products and services from a team that understands the local trading environment.
Commenting on the launch, Brian, said: “I am thrilled to be leading Gallagher’s insurance and risk management offering to clients in Taiwan. The region has experienced strong economic growth over recent years and we have very active manufacturing, agriculture, financial and technology sectors so having an on-the-ground presence in Taipei presents strong expansion opportunities. In addition to working directly with Taiwanese businesses, as one of the world’s largest brokers with extensive access to global markets, Gallagher is well placed to work alongside other local brokers to support those looking to place insurance for more complex risks.”
Speaking on Gallagher’s expansion plans in Asia, Sarah Lyons, CEO of Australia and Asia added: “Our launch in Taiwan marks another major milestone in Gallagher’s expansion plans. We first launched in Asia in 2011 and have steadily grown our footprint through acquisitions, partnerships and organic growth. I am delighted with the calibre of the team we are bringing to clients in Taiwan and with our on-the ground experience in insurance, reinsurance and employee benefits we are well placed to quickly scale up our existing client base.”
