Artificial Intelligence has taken off and has impacted nearly every industry. With these evolving technologies, new risks emerge. The 2026 Business Owners survey once again looked at a variety of factors related to cyber risk and the advancements of AI and how business owners perceived and mitigated these risks.

  • In 2025, 22% of business owners reported making a cyber-insurance related claim.
  • Many business owners (68%) are extremely/very concerned that cyber-attacks will affect their business over the next 12 months.
  • Unsurprisingly, cyber-attacks are a major worry for business owners. In fact, 44% would like to acquire or expand insurance coverage for cyber-attacks, up from 36% last year.
  • Regarding AI, almost all business owners (89%) are at least somewhat worried that the technology will affect their business over the next 12 months, although this number is down from last year (93%), indicating that they may be starting to adopt and see the benefits of AI.

Despite these concerns, business owners plan to continue investing in AI for their business operations in 2026.

Incorporating AI

Business owners plan to incorporate AI into a variety of areas within their business, with IT at the top of the list for the largest number of businesses reporting this area (54%) and the largest increase from last year (43%).

Areas where AI will be incorporated less than or the same as last year include human resources and research and development (R&D).

Top concerns related to AI

Business owners were asked to rank their top concerns for artificial intelligence. This year several new areas of concern were added to last year's list. The data from both years shows a double-digit increase in all categories (except reputational and brand risk, which increased by 10 percentage points), indicating that business owners are more aware of the potential risks to their businesses.

For the second year, 95% of business owners agree that more needs to be done to regulate AI misuse; and 94% agree that more needs to be done to protect against AI misuse, up from 90% in 2025.
