A new joint study has recently been undertaken by the Gallagher Research Centre and our research partners HR Wallingford, to help determine what the realistic impact of potential flood defence breaching could mean for heavily insured areas along the UK coastline.

This research has led to the development of new Realistic Disaster Scenarios (RDS) for the UK East and West coasts, both for the present day and for 2050.

These new scenarios will support UK insurers in helping stress test their exposure to coastal flood risk, while helping explore the impacts of potential UK flood defence breaching and how this risk will increase with climate change.
