The client experienced a $3M property loss when 31 stator bars began leaking on one of the generators at their power plant. The cause of the leaks was determined to be crevice corrosion cracking. The insurance carrier denied coverage for the repair cost due to exclusion in the policy for ‘normal’ corrosion.
Our Risk Engineering team evaluated the crevice corrosion and concluded that the crevice corrosion was very unusual and could not be considered normal. They also discovered that the technical evidence that the corrosion was the damage and not the peril. Our engineers went on to demonstrate that poor workmanship was the peril that led to the corrosion damage.
As a result of our Risk Engineering teams’ analysis, the carrier overturned the denial of coverage and awarded our client the $3,000,000 claim in full.
