In addition to a variety of weather news sources online or through other means of communications, emergency information also can be found through federal weather agencies (several of which offer mobile apps to remain apprised of the pending or current situation). Several organizations dedicated to weather monitoring include:

National Weather Service

The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) provides significant information on everything from current weather updates, contact organizations to assist you, preparation and planning resources and more.

National Hurricane Center

The U.S. National Hurricane Center was established to help save lives, mitigate property loss and improve the economic climate in the affected areas. It provides news alerts, updates and resources to assist you. 

National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) was established to focus on conditions relative to our oceans and general atmospheric environment. NOAA provides alerts to dangerous weather, conducts research and offers critical resources where necessary. NOAA also offers a mobile app to allow its visitors to remain apprised of pending weather activity.

When you know that your state or community could be at risk of a natural disaster, actively monitoring news sources is extremely important. While there are many options available through television, radio and the Internet, The Weather Channel also offers a mobile app for both iPhone and Android devices. You will likely try to remain current also provides active weather updates, forecasts and many additional resources.
