Directions Newsletter - Additional Disaster Relief for Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria

Published on

Three recent hurricanes have caused a tremendous amount of damage and destruction to parts of the United States and its territories. Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria have greatly impacted both employers and employees, as well as their families, who live and work in the path of these storms. Parts of Texas and Georgia, the entire state of Florida, the territory of Puerto Rico, and the islands of St. Croix, St. John, and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands have been declared Disaster Areas by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (“FEMA”). Congress has provided relief for the designated Disaster Areas in the form of certain tax relief provisions. In addition, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”) have provided guidance on new special enrollments under Medicare and in the public Marketplaces.
