One Father's Journey for Change
Presenter: Wayne Maines, Vice President, Safety & Operations, Austin Community College
Description: Families with transgender children are facing unprecedented attacks across the nation because people are afraid of the unknown. At the same time, the first generation of transgender youth are arriving at your doorsteps and they will expect more from your institutions than the generation that came before them. As parents, we will expect the same. On December 31, 2014, my family won the highest transgender rights discrimination case in the nation. Maine's highest court ruled that in Maine, transgender children have the same rights as their classmates. This included bathrooms, field trips, sports, and other school activities.
This win did not come easy, nor did my family survive without scars. Come learn a little bit more about the challenges that our families face on a daily basis and the amazing outcomes that exist when our children are provided with the same chances to succeed as their classmates.
As we begin to visit your campuses, we will be looking for institutions that have programs in place that address; bullying, harassment, discrimination, housing, health care, counseling, and public safety. Join me to learn more about how we can work together to help others understand, affirm, and support transgender students. These efforts will help build a strong and inclusive campus community for all students, faculty, and staff.

Presenters: Martha Murphy, Gallagher Student Health & Emily Brainerd, National Wellbeing and Engagement Practice Leader, Gallagher
Description: The emotional wellbeing of employees is a growing concern and the suite of resources, programs and initiatives an employer can deploy is vast. With limited dollars to spend, and diverse population needs, the question remains – where to begin and/or where to invest next to meet the needs of employees and offer valued benefits and perks. During this session we will explore the current landscape and need for emotional wellbeing support, a framework to help differentiate emotional wellbeing resources and discuss best practices for implementation and integration within a larger suite of benefit offerings.
