Bringing together eight leaders from varying business sectors and sizes, the following leaders were chosen to be part of the Gallagher Leaders Scrum after successfully demonstrating a proven track record of making big calls to protect and grow their company:

  • Gareth Baxter, insurance manager at Maritime Transport in Felixstowe, Suffolk
  • Jeff Addison, finance director at Howarth Winterbrook in Leiston, Suffolk
  • Phil Conway, finance director at PP O’Connor in Manchester
  • Lisa James, licensee at Proud Pub Company Limited in Rugby, Warwickshire
  • Zoe Glanville, production manager at Surfing Cow Ice Cream in Plymouth
  • Matt Ballard, group managing director at Ballards Removals Ltd in Retford, Nottinghamshire
  • Hyaden Coates, director at Northamptonshire Oak
  • John Buchanan, CEO/owner at Meridian Audio Limited in Cambridgeshire

The successful applicants will now be given opportunities by Gallagher to network with like-minded individuals and receive specialist coaching from a panel of some of the UK’s leading decision makers, including serial entrepreneur and former panellist on the hit TV series Dragon’s Den, James Caan CBE, best-selling author and High Performance Podcast co-host, Damian Hughes, and Leicester Tigers CEO, Andrea Pinchen.

As part of their Leaders Scrum membership, the winners will also be given hospitality tickets to the 2023 Gallagher Premiership Rugby final, tickets to an additional Gallagher Premiership Rugby match, marketing support for their company and a visit to their business from a Gallagher Premiership Rugby club’s Director of Rugby.

James Caan CBE, commented: “Making the right call in high-pressure situations is a skill that can make or break a business. I’m excited to start coaching members of the Gallagher Leaders Scrum and helping them to develop this ability through my own knowledge and business learnings.”

Gary Fletcher, managing director for the South, Gallagher, said: “The overall quality of applications to join the Gallagher Leaders Scrum was highly impressive and demonstrated the resilience and ingenuity of the entire UK business community. We are looking forward to helping the chosen winners, who have demonstrated great leadership in making the right call for their business, make the next big decisions about the future of their operations.”

Mark Brittain, chief commercial officer at Premiership Rugby said: “We are glad to be helping Gallagher in its mission to help businesses make the right call, more often, through the Gallagher Leaders Scrum initiative. Making big calls is paramount to success in rugby and in business, so we are excited to be facilitating the knowledge sharing process between the participating directors of rugby and Gallagher Leaders Scrum members who have shown brilliant capabilities in this area already.”
