What is valeting insurance?

Car valeting insurance provides specific cover for individuals who clean and detail cars, whether at business premises, mobile, or home.

As part of a motor trade insurance policy, car valeting insurance can provide additional cover for various day-to-day risks, including claims from customers relating to vehicle damage caused whilst working on their vehicles, road traffic accidents, theft of equipment, or even employee accidents.

What does car valeting insurance cover?

Mobile valeting insurance policies vary depending on the type of cover you may need. Most traders should consider road risk insurance, public liability cover, and protection for their tools. However, the exact details of your policy are up to you — and your insurer.

As a minimum, you’ll need road risks insurance so that, in addition to your own vehicles, you’re insured to drive customers’ vehicles when working on them, especially if you offer a collection and delivery service.

Usually, you can pick between three levels of road risks insurance:

  • Third-party only — insures against damage caused to third-party vehicles if at fault.
  • Third-party fire and theft — provides cover to third-party vehicles, as well as protection against fire and theft of cars you own.
  • Comprehensive — provides cover for damage caused to third-party or vehicles you own.

Mobile car valeting insurance policies can also include:

  • Public liability — covers you against fees or legal costs associated with accident and injury claims from customers.
  • Employers’ liability — similar to public liability, this provides cover for claims for accidents and injuries from employees while on your premises.
  • Tools in transit cover — insures tools and equipment carried in your trading vehicle against theft, damage, and loss.
  • Business premises cover — provides cover at your premises from damage, such as theft, fire, or flood. Some policies may include contents as well as buildings under business premises cover.

These are brief product descriptions only. Please refer to the policy documentation paying particular attention to the terms and conditions, exclusions, warranties, subjectivities, excesses and any endorsements.
