Protection for your organisation and service users

We provide specialist insurance to community transport organisations, with flexible cover options to suit your requirements and the service you provide.

For many people with limited mobility, the use of accessible transport is a lifeline. Whether it’s medical appointments, shopping trips, or travel to and from a place of education, having door-to-door transportation can be vital for those who cannot easily use traditional public transport.

We recognise that every community transport provider is different and will get to know your organisation so that we can arrange the appropriate insurance for your needs. We can provide cover for all types of fleets, from people carriers to specially adapted vehicles, with no upper age limit for your drivers. For nonprofit organisations, we can insure vehicles driven under Section 19 (10B in Northern Ireland) and Section 22 permits.

With many years of experience working with organisations like yours, we also understand how important it is for you to maintain your reputation for helping people to travel in safety and comfort, whatever their mobility challenges.

Our insurance policies can include the following covers.

All vehicles on one policy: To reduce potential admin headaches, we can cover all your vehicles on a single fleet insurance policy, with a single insurer and single renewal date. The fleet policy we offer complies with the Road Traffic Act 1988, and can cover any size of fleet—even if you only have two or three vehicles.

Laid-up cover: Cover for vehicles that have been declared off-road is referred to as laid-up cover or SORN cover (Statutory Off-Road Notification cover). It can include accidental damage, and fire and theft at a reduced rate for vehicles not currently in use. Laid-up cover can also cover modified accessible vehicles, such as those with tail lifts or integrated wheelchair ramps. We offer laid-up cover for fleets or single vehicles.

We can insure single buses and coaches, including electric vehicles, self-drive hire, vehicles driven under Section 19 (10B in Northern Ireland) and Section 22 permits. Cover includes uninsured loss recovery (legal cover), and all uses including laid-up cover (fire and theft).

Self-drive hire insurance covers vehicles that are hired out by your organisation to other community groups, whether you or the hirer provides a driver.

Breakdown cover provides the reassurance of 24/7 access to assistance through a network of local specialists. It also includes recovery of wheelchair-accessible vehicles, and will help you get back on the road as soon as possible. The breakdown cover we provide extends to Northern Ireland.

Public liability insurance: Protects your organisation from the financial impact of compensation claims made by service users and members of the public - for example, for injury or damage to their property.

Employers’ liability insurance: Provides cover for work-related illness, injury claims or property damage made by employees. Unless everyone in your organisation is a close family member, you are legally obliged to have employers’ liability insurance. This includes having cover for volunteer drivers.

Trustee indemnity insurance: This cover prevents trustees or board members having to pay their own legal costs should a claim be made against them, either by the organisation or a third party.
