Local charity, Claire House Children’s Hospice, is celebrating a successful start to the New Year, thanks to a generous donation made by our colleagues in Liverpool, who raised more than £30,000 as part of a wider volunteering and support programme for the charity.

Following a cheque presentation at Claire House Children’s Hospice this week, monies raised will now go towards providing local families with much needed care and support, both within their hospice and out in the community. In the last six years, referrals to Claire House have increased by 84%, and the charity has been struggling to meet demand. This donation will support Claire House to ensure they can continue to provide these much needed services in the local community.

Claire House Children’s Hospice, which has been receiving support from Gallagher since 2017, and was chosen as the Liverpool office’s ‘Charity of the Year’ for the second year running in 2018, helps seriously and terminally ill children to live their lives to the full by providing specialist nursing care and emotional support to families. Since opening in 1998, the hospice has grown to now support over 300 families.

Stephen Penketh, North West Regional Managing Director for Gallagher, said: “As a community broker, Gallagher is extremely passionate about providing both tangible support and worthwhile donations to local services. I am incredibly proud of the team in Liverpool, not only have they raised a phenomenal amount and devoted much time and effort into volunteering, more significantly, they have made a real and positive impact, ensuring essential support services for families and young people continue to be available for the next 12 months and beyond.”

Beth Pochin, Partnerships Manager at Claire House, commented: “The generous donation from Gallagher will go a long way towards us helping local children and families create special memories, and to make the most of every day they have together. Our aim is to help children and young people live their lives to the full. We really cannot thank Gallagher enough for their ongoing support, which will have an incredible benefit on the young people in our hospice.”

Throughout 2018, the Liverpool team took part in a series of fundraising activities, which included a charity tuck shop, dress down days, Christmas card donations, a charity race night and taking part in the Run Liverpool Spring 10K.

Contributing significantly to the final figure, over £10,000 was raised for Claire House at the Merseyside Young Professionals Annual Charity Ball. Gary Brabander, New Business Development Executive at Gallagher and Chairman of the event, nominated the charity to receive all proceeds from the ball.

In addition to the incredible fundraising, the team has offered hands-on support to the charity throughout 2018. In October, a team of volunteers from the broker visited the charity’s new facility in West Derby to help with tidying the grounds, clearing the orchard, and taking down an overgrown tree.
