Stand-first: Gallagher UK colleagues honoured for community engagement and raising thousands for local charities
Gallagher Gives Awards

Gallagher colleagues from across the UK who have made outstanding contributions to local charities and communities have been recognised in the 2019 UK Gallagher Gives Back Awards.

The winning charity champions and community teams were announced in front of a packed audience at Gallagher’s London Team Talk event, with the accolades presented by President, CEO and Chairman, Pat Gallagher, and CEO of Gallagher’s UK Broking & Underwriting business, Simon Matson.

The UK Gallagher Gives Back Awards are awarded annually to individuals and teams who exemplify Gallagher’s culture and values through their work in supporting charitable organisations, and who help bring the firm’s community spirit to life.

Nominees were judged on the extent of charitable work undertaken, the impact of their fundraising efforts on the beneficiary charities and, critically, the efforts that they have made in encouraging involvement by others in their office and beyond.

Account Handler Nicole Gillam scooped the Charity Champion of the Year award, impressing judges with her commitment to promoting CSR and giving back to the local community, by implementing a monthly programme of fundraising events in the Croydon office – from bake sales to sponsored walks — and significantly driving up levels of colleague participation and support for CSR initiatives.

The Community Team of the Year accolade was awarded to the Luton office, in recognition of the outstanding collaboration among team members in fundraising efforts, forming strong relationships with the charities they support as well as their commitment to community engagement initiatives.

In recognition of their achievements, the winners and highly commended entrants received donations of £2500 and £1000 respectively to give to a charity of their choice.

Simon Matson, CEO, said: “Giving back to local communities is a vital part of our role as an ethical, community broker and our award winners have gone above and beyond in their personal commitment to helping others face their future with confidence.

“CSR is a huge part of the Gallagher ethos. For us, it’s not just about raising vital funds for local charities - we want to go the extra mile by offering our practical help through volunteering and lending our expertise, and I’m extremely proud of our outstanding teams for their work to date.”

Gallagher’s community involvement programme, Gallagher Gives, provides opportunities for colleagues to participate in volunteering and fundraising activities, with the Gallagher Matched Giving programme providing a substantial boost to the financial support able to be given to employee-chosen local charities. In the past year, employees in the UK have raised over £400,000 for charitable causes and have volunteered almost 2,000 hours of their time to have a real and lasting impact on their local communities.
